employee profiles

New college hires. Highly experienced, well-established experts. Employees who leave, but then return. Everyone has a different story, but the themes are remarkably similar, and paint a picture of AMEC Geomatrix as a company that provides plenty of opportunity, challenge, and fun: a place in which the right person can really make a difference.

Veen Chee Foong
Senior Engineer
M.S., Civil Engineering

Why she came to AMEC Geomatrix :  I joined Geomatrix straight out of school, and left the company for just over a year to join another environmental consulting firm. I wanted to get a different experience.

What she found:  I found that other organizations don’t do things the way Geomatrix does. In particular, I missed being involved in decisions. Geomatrix makes decisions by committee—but in a good way, to make sure that all voices are heard. I definitely don’t want decisions just pushed down through the organization without my input. In turn I think that having this kind of open communications requires people throughout the organization to take personal responsibility to speak up and live up to their promises. I like working with people like that.

Also, you can’t beat the resources here. There are lots of very experienced people here—and they’re genuinely interested in helping—so on a complicated project you can get the insight you need very quickly. As a result, work at Geomatrix is diverse, and exciting—much more so than at other firms.

To sum it up, Geomatrix is the best of both worlds—a strong consensus oriented organization (similar to small firms) and a solid, very experienced, very broad based firm able to get and do very interesting, very exciting work. It’s a great combination.

Why he came to AMEC Geomatrix :

What he found:

Meghan Koch
Staff Engineer
M.S. Civil Engineering

Why she came to AMEC Geomatrix :  When I went to my advisor looking for career advice, he told me to look into Geomatrix, which had a great reputation for being small enough where I could make a difference, and large enough to do interesting and diverse work.

What she found:  Great work, and great people who genuinely get along. I really believe I’ll be able to achieve all I want to achieve here….And best of all, Geomatrix engineers aren’t the stereotypical engineers: they’re triathletes, surfers, mountain bikers, and very active in the community.

Myles F. Grotbo
Principal Geologist
B.S. Earth Science

Why he came to AMEC Geomatrix :  I wanted a place where I felt I could grow and be successful—I wanted a place with a flat ownership structure.

What he found:  I’m thrilled to be a part of this company! What I found was absolutely as advertised. In addition, I found a place that was supportive and would really help me build my business—effectively, I’ve been allowed to be an entrepreneur within a larger support system. In particular, I’ve discovered that the corporate staff is incredibly helpful and very client focused—very different from what I’ve seen before.

Because of this, I think we’re able to attract higher end people—smarter experts who want to provide clients with meaningful solutions.
